The Truma Open Innovation rollout has been a resounding success: over 1000 campers have joined Truma to shape the future of camping. Indeed, campers have not only taken part in a large-scale survey, which has been available since 26th September, but have also added valuable comments in terms of quality regarding their challenges and needs while travelling. The survey could either be completed directly at the Truma stand at the Caravan Salon trade fair or at a later date conveniently in the comfort of your own home.
The Truma Open Innovation aimed to get to know the camping community even better and make them feel more involved. After all, their ideas, needs and wishes form the basis for clever product solutions and the further development of the Truma iNet X System.
“We were delighted by the fact that so many people took part in our survey, and some of whom really took their time to provide detailed answers regarding their needs and to formulate their responses. The outcome really shows us that our community is keen to get actively involved in shaping the future of camping – we are a force to be reckoned with together”, adds Alexander Wottrich, CEO of
the Truma Group, regarding the campaign.
The opening question to the survey was as follows: “If you think in general about travelling by caravan/motor home: what would make everyday camping easier or give you peace of mind?”
The most stated need provided Truma with extra momentum when it came to the rollout of the Truma iNet X System, which was launched at Caravan Salon. Since 31 per cent of those questioned wanted “just one display” to be able to view all setting displays swiftly and conveniently. The survey results therefore reaffirmed the relevance of the Truma iNet X System for the camper community. One survey respondent accordingly stated: “I’d like to be able to effectively connect the individual appliances in my caravan. In a similar way to standard smart home appliances.” Another respondent added: “I’d like a dashboard to display all the key motor home data at a glance.”
The second most stated need was the out-of-range function, that is the option to control appliances remotely using the app. 26 of the respondents proactively stated that this feature would make everyday travelling easier.
Respondents selected the following items as their desired needs: level indicator for gas cylinder (13 per cent), water level display (11 per cent) as well as battery charging or power consumption display. Of less importance were aspects such as the installation and connectivity of cameras (2 per cent), solar panels (2 per cent), multimedia/satellite systems (1 per cent), manoeuvring systems (1 per cent) or motion detectors (1 per cent).
The survey has provided us with valuable insights into which topics will be relevant for us as a product and system supplier, who is regarded as being at the forefront of innovations in the camping sector. It is important for us to be as close to customers as possible and know what makes them tick, what makes their everyday camping easier and what annoyances need to be eradicated. Together we want to make camping safer and more comfortable. This doesn’t just involve us”, explains Wottrich.
Truma views the survey results as just the beginning of the long-term Truma Open Innovation. The community has also been called upon for further interaction and support in various formats, such as interviews, usability tests and surveys.
Progress on the Truma Open Innovation pathway is closely linked to the ongoing market launch of the Truma iNet X System: as in early 2022, the Truma iNet X Panel will be available for retrofit from specialist dealers. The new operating system not only enables various appliances to be controlled, but also reaps the benefits of the new system solution at its core. Even following installation, it is possible to subsequently connect compatible devices and add services. This makes the system fit for the future and customers will benefit from all further developments – which they can play their part
in.
